Specialist Profiles

Nipple & areola surgery, led by an aesthetic surgeon

Tongchun Mao, MD

Tongchun Mao, MD (毛彤春)

Deputy Director & Head of Aesthetic Surgery · Vice Chief Physician, Licensed Aesthetic Attending

Aesthetic surgery · nipple-areola reconstruction · breast contouring

Dr. Tongchun Mao is Deputy Director of the Plastic Surgery & Aesthetics Medical Center and head of its aesthetic surgery service at Chongqing West District Hospital — the lead physician of this site’s surgical content. A core specialist formerly at the Plastic and Aesthetic Surgery Department of Xinqiao Hospital, affiliated with Army Medical University, he has rooted his clinical practice for more than 20 years and personally performs over 700 operations a year.

His practice covers nipple-areola reconstruction after mastectomy, reduction and reshaping of the nipple and areola, correction of the inverted nipple and 3D medical tattooing, alongside breast and body contouring and facial rejuvenation — with a consistent philosophy: operate on the anatomy you have, respect function as much as appearance, and plan scars, sensation and recovery honestly before anyone agrees to anything.

Clinical focus

  • Nipple and areola surgery: reduction, reshaping, and correction of the inverted nipple
  • Nipple-areola reconstruction after mastectomy, including staged timing with the breast mound and flap or graft design for projection
  • Medical tattooing and colour matching for the reconstructed or faded areola
  • Breast and body contouring, including repositioning and reshaping of the nipple-areola complex in lift and reduction
  • Detailed facial-feature refinement, facial rejuvenation, and aesthetic closure technique

Academic roles & achievements

  • Member, Rhinoplasty and Trunk Tumor Groups, Chinese Medical Association Plastic Surgery Branch
  • Member, Chongqing Medical Aesthetics Quality Control Center; Member, Chongqing Medical Accident / Disability Assessment Expert Pools
  • Deputy Chair, Chongqing Shapingba District Medical Aesthetics Committee
  • Published 5 SCI papers, holds 7 national patents, and has participated in 4 research projects
  • Repeatedly named an “Outstanding Young Physician” at Xinqiao Hospital since joining in 2005

The last stage decides the result

In reconstruction, the nipple and areola are the final step — and often the one that makes the whole result read as a breast. They deserve the same planning rigour as the mound beneath them, together with an honest statement of what will hold, what will flatten, and what will need repeating.

Shaoliang Wang, MD

Shaoliang Wang, MD (王韶亮)

Director, Plastic Surgery & Aesthetics Medical Center · Vice Chief Physician, Associate Professor, Doctor of Medicine

Plastic surgery · complex cases · revision

Dr. Shaoliang Wang is Director of the Plastic Surgery & Aesthetics Medical Center at Chongqing West District Hospital. He previously served as Deputy Chief of Plastic and Aesthetic Surgery at Xinqiao Hospital, affiliated with Army Medical University, and brings more than two decades of tertiary-hospital surgical experience to his practice.

Within the service he is the backstop for the difficult cases: tissue that has not healed as expected, correction of operations performed elsewhere, and the judgement of when a plan should not proceed.

Role in this service

  • Reconstructive and plastic surgical support for complex nipple-areola cases
  • Correction of failed or complicated aesthetic operations referred to the center
  • Operating theatre, anesthesia, and intensive-care coordination within the hospital

A hospital-based advantage

When a graft has not taken, an infection needs theatre-level care, or a reconstruction needs to be redone, the operating room, anaesthesiology, and intensive care are already in the same building. Practicing inside a tertiary general hospital means that backstop is real rather than theoretical.

Ke He, MD

Ke He, MD (何锞)

Deputy Director & Head of Skin & Laser Aesthetics · Attending Physician, Licensed Aesthetic Attending

Skin & laser aesthetics · scar and pigment aftercare

Dr. Ke He is Deputy Director of the Plastic Surgery & Aesthetics Medical Center and head of its skin and laser aesthetic service at Chongqing West District Hospital. A core specialist formerly at the Plastic and Aesthetic Surgery Department of Xinqiao Hospital, affiliated with Army Medical University, she has worked on the clinical front line in skin laser and injectable aesthetics for more than 20 years, serving over ten thousand patients.

Within the service her role is everything the scalpel does not do: optimizing skin quality before an operation, and laser- and injection-based scar and pigment aftercare afterwards, so that scars fade as well as they can and colour settles evenly.

Role in this service

  • Scar prevention and treatment around the areola: silicone, pressure, injection, and laser protocols
  • Pigment management, including uneven or darkened colour after surgery
  • Skin conditioning before reconstruction, grafting, and tattooing

Under-treat, then refine

An injector can always add a little more at the review visit; removing too much is the hard part. Starting conservatively and refining at two to four weeks is the discipline behind natural results.

Yongbo Jia, MD

Yongbo Jia, MD (贾勇波)

Deputy Director & Head of Dermatology · Vice Chief Physician, Licensed Aesthetic Attending

Dermatology · perioperative skin health

Dr. Yongbo Jia is Deputy Director of the Plastic Surgery & Aesthetics Medical Center and head of its dermatology service at Chongqing West District Hospital. A vice chief physician and licensed aesthetic attending, he graduated from Chengdu University of Traditional Chinese Medicine and trained in dermatology at the Institute of Dermatology, Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences, and at Chongqing Hospital of Traditional Chinese Medicine.

Within the service his role is the skin itself: preoperative assessment of conditions that affect healing, and postoperative dermatologic care that protects scars and pigment. Good surgery on unhealthy skin heals poorly.

Role in this service

  • Preoperative skin assessment for conditions that affect wound healing
  • Postoperative dermatologic care of scars, pigment, and the areola
  • Diagnosis and treatment of skin disease discovered during surgical assessment

Diagnosis first

Most treatment failures in dermatology trace back to a missed diagnosis or an abandoned routine. Getting the diagnosis right, then staying with the maintenance plan, is what quietly produces results — and it is why a change in the nipple needs assessment before it is treated as a cosmetic problem.
